Kostuming Korner

This quarter we've decided to take a look at IKF Division Insignia pins, and revisit the rank pins for a closer look at the materials and designs...

As you know from the previous quarter's issue, rank and insignia pins are relatively easy and inexpensive to make. All it takes are some 1" diameter wodden discs ($1-$2), "tie pins" and backs ($2-$4), some paint ($1-$5 depending on paint), spray clear-coat ($3-$5), superglue ($1-3$), and time (depends on design).

If you note the items located in the graphic surrounded by the green square.

The wooden discs that I used are "Laura's Crafts" 1" discs. There are 7 per package (part # U10045) and at Michael's Crafts they run for $.99.

The "tie pins" inside the yellow square are commonly used in Trek fandom as Federation rank pips. They roughly run for between 3 and 4 dollars at a craft store. Although, get the shorter pins.

The red square shows the finished pieces, front and Back (We used a Thought Admiral's rank insignia in the picture). For information on IKF rank insignia Click Here
